The CID certification provides core competencies in Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design. Instruction is based on the IPC specification tree, with an emphasis on IPC-2221 and IPC-2222 design specifications. The CID certification focuses on PCB design characteristics, physical board types, component types, surface treatments, board fabrication documentation, and schematics.
The CID+ certification continues beyond the core competencies learned during the CID certification and is available for anyone who successfully certified as a CID. The CID+ certification focuses on PCB materials and characteristics, electrical parameters, component placement and mounting strategies, and various manufacturing documentation.
Both the CID and CID+ certifications enhance a designer’s knowledge of design considerations to ensure superior electrical and mechanical performance are achieved throughout a product’s intended environment and lifetime, while also ensuring the design is producible and meets workmanship standards with respect to manufacturing, assembly, and test.
A current Printed Circuit Board (PCB) designer interested in enhancing their knowledge and expertise, or anyone interested in learning about PCB design. This includes Engineers and Quality Supervisors responsible for design assurance. Other great candidates are Purchasing, Sales, Research & Development, Test, and Product/Program Managers to ensure hardware meets program requirements.
A Certified Interconnect Designer (CID) interested in progressing their knowledge and expertise beyond the core competencies of PCB design. An Advanced Certified Interconnect Designer (CID+) is a subject matter expert with a high level of knowledge and understanding of PCB design to ensure both mechanical and electrical performance.
