IPC-A-600: Acceptability of Printed Boards

IPC-A-600 is the most comprehensive and widely used acceptance criteria for bare printed circuit boards (PCB). PCB manufacturers and assemblers rely on this internationally recognized standard to ensure PCB workmanship quality and reliability in their delivered product while helping to enhance communication with their suppliers and customers with a common set of requirements.

Topics covered in the IPC-A-600 online course include:

  • Printed board product classifications and acceptance criteria
  • Base material surface and subsurface conditions such as measling/crazing
  • Solder resist coverage over conductors and registration to lands
  • Conductor width and spacing and annular ring requirements
  • Dielectric material criteria for etchback, voids, and resin recession
  • Plated-through hole requirements for copper plating thickness, voids, nodules and cracks
  • Acceptance criteria for flexible, rigid-flex and metal core printed boards
  • Steps to effectively using the lesson plan and materials, tips on inspection and a review of important Certified IPC Trainer skills (if applicable)

Which Certification Is Right For Me?

Certified IPC Specialist (CIS): Anyone responsible for the quality and reliability of bare printed boards. This includes Engineers, Quality Supervisors, Inspectors, and Manufacturing Personnel responsible for quality assurance.  Other great candidates are Purchasing, Receiving/Incoming Inspection, Sales, and Product/Program Managers to ensure hardware meets program requirements.
Certified IPC Trainer (CIT): Anyone responsible for training, educating, and proctoring Certified IPC Specialists (CIS) for a specific IPC standard.
Certified Standards Expert (CSE): A subject matter expert with a high level of knowledge and understanding of a specific IPC standard, or group of standards, and will not conduct training of others.  Manufacturing Supervisors, Product Engineers, Process Engineers, and Quality Engineers with assembly responsibilities should consider becoming a CSE.
